The secret agent Harry Tasker (<a href=">Arnold Schwarzenegger) has been happily married with his wife, the legal secretary Helen (<a href=">Jamie Lee Curtis), for many years living in the suburbs and having a teenager daughter, Dana. Helen does not suspect that Harry has a double life, and she believes he is a computer salesman. After a top-secret mission, Harry finds evidences that Helen is having an affair with Simon (<a href=">Bill Paxton) , a used cars salesman that seduced Helen with the glamour and excitement of his fake life, telling her that he is a spy. Harry forces his partner Albert Gibson to use the resources of their agency to follow Simon and Helen; they abduct Helen wearing masks and later they assign a pseudo mission for her. However, a group of terrorists kidnap Helen and Harry and the couple gets involved with a dangerous group that possesses an atomic bomb ready to be exploded in Florida.
True Lies is one of my most favorite films of all time. Everything is here-action, romance, comedy, whatever you want. Arnold, Bill Paxton, Art Malik, Eliza Dushku, Tia Carrere: everyone has done a great job. I&#39;m a die hard Eliza Dushku fan and I wanted a bigger role of her in this action masterpiece. She perfectly played the naughty daughter of Arnie and Jamie. But I was disappointed to see Jamie Lee here; although she is 11 years younger than Arnie she looks 11 years older!! She has a very unattractive and disliking face but I&#39;m not saying she is a bad actress.<br/><br/>Arnold was fabulous in action and comedy, Art Malik played a very tough villain, Bill was absolutely funny and entertaining, Tia was voluptuous and a perfect cast for the role. Every actor&#39;s acting was remarkable in this $110 million budgeted film and it should be earned over $200 million but finally it grossed only $146m in US. I think all action fan will love this film.
For a man famous for playing a dead pan robot, or a muscle bound soldier, this is probably Arnies best comic outing, as he gets to be both the action hero and have a life in a more believable (if you can ever say that about him) manner than his previous film, Last Action Hero, but keeps the action high compared to his more comic films; &#39;Twins&#39;, &#39;Junior&#39; and the awful &#39;Jingle All The Way&#39;. Curtis works well as the disenfranchised wife. She&#39;s living with a spy, a man of action, adventure and international mystery, yet - like so many romantic leads in superhero films - she can&#39;t see through his disguise. She lacks all the excitement his days have, tries to capture it for herself and the result is predictably comic. Tom Arnold plays the sidekick for laughs. Given the life and death situations they find themselves in, he seems very quick with the jokes, though a stronger comic would likely have over shadowed Arnie. Rather than being the main storyline, the nuclear terrorists are a back drop to marital strife, and it&#39;s easier to explain to your other half why you&#39;re working so hard and never home when you&#39;re actually saving the world, rather than just believing you are.
The net result is unbeatably good fun, helped along by that inherent fantasy that one man can create global mayhem without stopping to worry who's going to clean up afterwards.
After a mission in Switzerland, which he sneaked into a mansion during a party, to find evidence that Iranian financer Jamal Khaled (nm0542000) is financing an Islamic terrorist group led known as &quot;The Crimson Jhihad&quot; led by Salim Abu Aziz (nm0539562) aka &quot;The Sand Spider&quot;. Harry Tasker (nm0000216), an American secret agent working for a government organisation called &quot;The Omega Sector&quot; that deals in anti-terrorism, begins following Aziz&#39;s trail and begins to suspect beautiful Antiques dealer Juno Skinner (nm0000119), whom was one of the party guests, may be invovled with Aziz. After pursuing Aziz, whom escapes. Harry soon learns that his wife Helen (nm0000130), whom is not aware that Harry is an American spy and believes Harry is a computer salesman, is having an affair with a man called Simon (nm0000200/). After discovering Simon is a car salesman, whom is pretending to be a secret agent, so he can manipulate Helen into having sex with him and interrogates Helen and scares Helen and Simon into ending the affair, after catching them together. Harry decides to give Helen an assignment, since Helen is a bored with her life and wants excitement, which he poses as a man suspected of being a arms dealer, which Helen poses as a prosistute, so she can plant a bug in the telephone in his hotel room. But, when Harry and Helen are both abducted by Aziz. Harry is forced to reveal to Helen that he is a secret agent and Harry and Helen escape from the island outside of Miami, where they are being held captive, which is nuked and Harry sets out to rescue his 14-year old daughter Dana, whom has been taken hostage by Aziz in a building in Miami and stop Aziz, whom plots to detonate a nuclear warhead, which will wipe out Miami. Ten scenes were altered, mostly fighting scenes showing double-ear-claps, headbutts and so on. All cuts were waived for the newest releases. The flash from the initial explosion of a nuclear warhead is so intense it can blind a human. When the scientists of the Manhattan Project detonated the 1st atomic bomb in 1945, they all wore dark goggles so they could watch the explosion without being blinded. If you watch footage of that event, you&#39;ll see them all putting on goggles. While the title may seem like a contradictory statement, as in &quot;lies that are true&quot;, it actually refers to the lies being pure or outright lies. Kind of like saying &quot;They&#39;re a true soldier&quot;. The film has several characters that lie to each other - Harry lies to Helen about him being a computer salesman, when he is really a secret agent. Simon the car salesman lies to Helen about him being a secret agent himself, so he can manipulate Helen into having sex with him. Helen lies to Harry about leaving the office to meet with Simon at the Chinese restaurant, etc. Simon (nm0000200) is a smarmy, cowardly, smug used car salesman. He talks himself up to his customers, however he is simply trying to cover his insecurities, although he can probably read people well, hence his being a salesman. Later in the film, he confesses that he has to lie to women to have sex and he isn&#39;t successful most of the time. When he sees Helen at the restaurant, he thought she would be an easy mark; attractive, uptight, dorky. So he thought his secret agent story would work on her, offering her adventure and excitement. His hunch turned out to be correct. But little did either of them know, Helen&#39;s &quot;boring jerk&quot; of a husband is a real secret agent. Yes, it is a remake of a 1991 French film called La Totale! about a secret agent whose wife thinks he&#39;s a telecommunications employee. Arnold Schwarzenegger had seen the film and told James Cameron about it and they decided to do a remake, which became True Lies, thinking it would make a good movie.
